The Marine Mammal Stranding Center has been monitoring a manatee that has been spotted numerous times at the New Jersey Shore. On Sunday a local photographer took a quick video of the "Sea Cow" in Belmar as it swam in the Shark River. Manatees have been spotted as far north at New England in warm summer months. By winter they should all be in much warmer waters off the coast of Florida. Back in 2020 a dead Manatee washed up on a beach in Middle Township. Back in 2009 after a major rescue effort a manatee was removed from a polluted creek near a Linden Oil Refinery. She was saved and eventually transported to Florida by the Coast Guard. Manatees can weigh up to 1300 pounds.
