The Sussex County Board of Commissioners has started the process to sell the vacant Sussex County Jail Building in Newton. The Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Facility has not housed any prisoners since late 2019. That's when Sussex County signed an agreement to house it's prisoners in the Morris County Correctional Facility. County Administrator Ron Tappan says a public hearing will have to be scheduled before the actual auction can take place early next year. The process will take several months. The minimum bid for the property would be $14 Million. Possible uses for the buildings and property include private offices ora hotel and restaurant. The Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Facility Building is nearly 50 years old. It opened in 1978.
