Fishers are returning to New Jersey

Fishers are in the Weasel Family. Development and progress drove them out of New Jersey more than 100 years ago. Now state wildlife officials say there have been recent sightings north of route 80 and west of route 287. Biologist Peter Stark told NorthJersey.com New Jersey wildlife officials started looking into recent migration habits of fishers last January. They're usually found in more northern parts of the United States and Canada. As far as weasels go fishers are considered medium sized. The average fisher can be up to 16 pounds and 3 feet long. Do you think you've seen one?
