The 250th birthday of the United States is a little over a year from now. The U.S. Postal Service is already doing their part to celebrate with five new Forever Stamps. Each one will commemorate a decisive Revolutionary War Battle. One of those battles is the Battle of Trenton fought on December 26th 1776. The battle took place after George Washington crossed the Delaware River during a heavy snowstorm and defeated Hessian troops. Who were caught completely off guard. A week later Washington and his troops would defeat the British in the Battle of Princeton. Both battles gave hope to the colonists and raised troop morale. The four other battles commemorated by the stamps are: The Battles of Lexington and Concord, Bunker Hill, Saratoga and Yorktown.
