Every year in March East Brunswick police close Beekman Road to allow breeding salamanders to cross. The department says: The salamanders cross the road because they live in woods on one side of the road and move to a breeding pond on the opposite side." Once they finish laying their eggs in the pond they cross back over. The migration usually happens on warm rainy nights. When the road is open drivers have been asked to slow down and use caution. All of the salamander activity happens in March. Did you know there are 16 different salamander species that live in New Jersey? I wondering about Jersey Strong "Salamander" Trivia one of these weeks. What do you think?
