Free agent slugger Kyle Schwarber will return to the Philadelphia Phillies as the two sides are reportedly finalizing a five-year, $150 million contract, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN's Jeff Passan on Tuesday (December 9).

"Kyle Schwarber is coming back to Philadelphia, agreeing to a five-year, $150 million contract that gives the Phillies a much-needed power boost and should pave the way for more free agent signings in the coming week," Passan wrote on his X account.

Schwarber, 32, reportedly opted to return to the Phillies over offers from the New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles, Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds.

Schwarber was selected as an All-Star for the third time in five years last season, hitting 240/.365/.563 with a National League-best 56 home runs and a Major League Baseball-leading 132 RBIs, having played in all 162 games for the first time in his 11-year career. The Ohio native initially joined the Phillies as part of a four-year, $79 million deal in 2022, having spent his first six seasons with the Chicago Cubs, which included winning the 2016 World Series, and splitting the 2021 season with the Washington Nationals and Red Sox.

Schwarber is also reportedly regarded as the Phillies' clubhouse leader and a beacon of clutch consistency, having hit 14 home runs in 38 postseason games since joining the franchise.
