The Delaware Water Gap has been ranked as the No. 13 cold plunge location in America, according to a survey conducted by A Mission for Michael (AMFM), a California-based health treatment center. The survey, which included 3,015 polar plunge enthusiasts, placed the Delaware Water Gap among the top 100 locations for cold plunging in the United States.
The Delaware Water Gap, located in Warren County, straddles the border between New Jersey and Pennsylvania. It offers an "icy river experience" with opportunities for polar plunges during the colder months, as well as year-round activities like hiking and paddling. The area charges fees at its beaches from April through October.
Anand Mehta, Executive Director of AMFM, explained the benefits of cold plunging: "The shock of cold water can spark a flood of feel-good hormones, sharpen focus, and even help you sleep better that night. It’s a fantastic way to boost your mood and energy," Mehta told lehighvalleylive.com.
The Delaware Water Gap ranked just behind Lake Michigan at Muskegon State Park and is part of a list topped by Brighton Beach in Brooklyn and Lake McDonald at Glacier National Park. This ranking highlights the growing popularity of cold-water plunging as a wellness activity, although experts advise consulting with a healthcare professional before participating, especially for those with mental health concerns.
