The Tri-State area is preparing for its first taste of winter weather, with potential snowfall expected across several counties. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of New Jersey and New York, and a Winter Storm Warning for Monroe County, Pennsylvania.

In New Jersey, the advisory is in effect from 7pm Thursday through 10am Friday. Sussex County is expected to receive 2-4 inches of snow, with higher totals above 1,200 feet. Warren County is anticipating 1-2 inches of snow. According to NJ.com, the snow is expected to remain mainly in high-elevation areas, with most of the snowfall predicted to be north and west of New Jersey.

In New York, Orange County is also under a Winter Weather Advisory, with 2-4 inches of snow forecasted in higher elevations.

Across the Delaware River in Monroe County, a Winter Storm Warning has been issued. Total snow accumulations are expected to be between 6 and 10 inches above 1,200 feet in elevation and between 1 to 4 inches below 1,200 feet in elevation.

The storm system, arriving from the west, will start out as a rain event for all of New Jersey, with as much as 2 to 3 inches of rain expected to fall Wednesday night through Thursday night in the northern half of the state. This rain is much needed, as the region has been plagued by serious drought conditions for more than a month.
