Halloween in the Poconos might be a warm one this year, with forecasters predicting temperatures in the 70s. This could potentially set new record highs for the region. The warm weather, however, is not expected to last, with temperatures predicted to drop to the 50s by the weekend.
Taryn Kloth, a meteorologist at WFMZ, reported that the warm weather is part of a fluctuating pattern that has seen temperatures swing from warm to cool and back to warm again. Despite these fluctuations, the region has remained stubbornly dry, leading to a moderate to severe drought in some areas.
The warm weather is expected to peak on Halloween, with temperatures potentially reaching the mid to upper 70s. The record high for Halloween in the Lehigh Valley, part of the northeastern Pennsylvania region, is 81 degrees, set in 1950. While this record is not expected to be broken, the forecasted high of 77 degrees is still significantly above average for this time of year.
The warm weather is expected to be short-lived, however, with a cold front predicted to move in by the weekend. This could bring a few showers, although significant rainfall is unlikely given the current dry conditions.
