Port of NY and NJ to Resume Normal Operations in a Week Following Strike

Dockworkers Strike Shuts Down Ports On Gulf And East Coasts

The Port Authority has announced that operations at the Port of New York and New Jersey should return to normal within a week. This follows a tentative agreement reached with striking dockworkers. Port Director Bethann Rooney stated that since the deal was reached on Thursday night, it's been all hands on deck to get operations back on track.

Approximately two dozen container and cargo ships that had been waiting at the port are now being brought in, and unloading is set to commence tonight. The cargo includes perishable items such as food and flowers, which are not expected to spoil due to the delay.

Two terminals will open over the weekend, with the remaining two set to open on Monday morning. Rooney added that it's not unusual for the port to be closed for a few days due to storms, and they are well-prepared to handle such situations. The Port Authority is working diligently to ensure a smooth transition back to normal operations.
